Background
Holtec International and its subsidiary companies are designing an unfailingly safe and secure
source of clean energy using nuclear fission, called the SMR-300. This position is offered by Holtec

As an electrical engineer, you will carry out the design and development of electrical systems
crucial to the SMR-300. Your role will encompass defining approaches to deliver the SMR-300
design, ensuring adherence to safety standards, supporting the development of the safety case, and
fostering a collaborative environment conducive to innovation.
Responsibilities
• Support development of nuclear safety functional requirements for SMR electrical systems.
• Facilitate the development of engineering requirements.
• Lead authorship for SMR electrical design documents.
• Support interactions with regulators to aid understanding of the electrical system design.
• Ensure that required codes and standards are met.
• Participate in design change management activities and provide design solutions through
critical thinking, research, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and suppliers.
• Contribute to the creation of technical documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Prepare design deliverables, presentations, and effectively communicate progress in
stakeholder meetings.
• Actively engage in project-driven engineering teams, providing leadership and expertise in
design development.
• Identify and implement improvements to working processes and procedures.
• Manage tasks autonomously while balancing competing priorities.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• Extensive experience in the principles of electrical engineering, particularly in other highly
regulated safety critical systems e.g. petrochemicals, defence etc.
• Strong credentials in designing and assessing electrical systems, including:
o On-site distribution (AC and DC)
o Off-site interfaces (substation)
o Grounding and lightning protection
o Plant lighting systems
o Battery systems
o Diesel generators
• Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
• Strong interpersonal skills with credibility to engage effectively at all organizational levels
and with external stakeholders.
• Exceptional presentation and communication skills.
• Proficiency in crafting robust justifications and arguments.
• Experience in managing design deliverables, ensuring error-free outputs.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance processes and requirements.
Desired Skills/Experience
• Prior experience in nuclear or safety critical systems.
• Exposure to fabrication and construction activities.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills in English.
• Ability to work collaboratively within diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
