Systems Design Engineer I

The Systems Design Engineer I is responsible for the design of a variety of components and systems for the SMR-300 power plant. This role requires frequent interfacing with other engineering disciplines and licensing groups as well as capable management of system integration activities, such as requirements development, component specification development, and calculations. The Engineer must be eager to learn new skills to create feasible/practical solutions to challenging design problems. The Engineer will be part of a team executing a U.S. Government cost-shared development program requiring efficient completion of engineering assignments.
Location: Camden, NJ (On‑site)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the design, development, and integration of plant systems for the SMR-300 small modular reactor program.
- Perform engineering evaluations, calculations, and analyses related to thermal-hydraulic, mechanical, and process system design.
- Develop system design documentation, including system descriptions, design specifications, engineering calculations, and technical reports.
- Support the development, verification, and management of system requirements and design bases.
- Work closely with component, mechanical, civil, electrical, I&C, and licensing engineers to ensure proper system integration and interface management.
- Participate in the selection, specification, and technical evaluation of plant equipment and components.
- Support preparation and review of engineering drawings, models, and vendor documentation.
- Assist in resolving technical issues and design challenges through engineering analysis and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to design reviews, technical meetings, and cross-functional project activities.
- Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, quality requirements, and regulatory expectations.
- Support licensing activities by preparing technical information and responding to internal and regulatory requests.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and configuration control throughout the design lifecycle.
Requirements:
- BS in an engineering discipline (civil, mechanical, or chemical preferred but not required)
- Minimum 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience or MS in engineering in mechanical or chemical engineering
- In-depth knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics fundamentals
- Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and effective communication skills
- Fluency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel
- Experience working with engineers and manufacturers to develop designs and drawings
- Experience researching and developing requirements
- Experience working in the nuclear energy field
- Experience with Smart Plant, MathCad, AutoCAD, Pipe-Flo, Engineering Life-cycle Management (ELM), requirements management software (e.g. DOORS-NG), and HTRI heat exchanger design software
- EIT and/or PE certification

- Annual compensation based on skills and experience ranging from $95,000 to $115,000.
