Project Manager - Heat Exchangers & Clean Energy Programs
Position Summary
Holtec International’s Heat Transfer Division, is seeking a Project Manager responsible for planning, scheduling, and executing complex engineering and manufacturing projects in support of heat exchanger, clean energy, and advanced thermal systems. This role partners closely with Engineering, Business Development, Fabrication, Procurement, Quality, and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within scope, and in compliance with contractual, quality, and applicable industry standards.
The Project Manager does not serve as the technical design authority, but leverages strong domain knowledge to translate engineering scope into executable plans, actively manage schedules and interfaces, mitigate risks, and drive disciplined project execution from proposal handoff through delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop, maintain, and actively manage integrated project schedules covering engineering, procurement, machining, fabrication, inspection, testing, and delivery.
- Translate heat exchanger and thermal system engineering scopes into detailed work breakdown structures with clearly defined milestones and dependencies.
- Identify critical paths, long-lead items, fabrication constraints, and schedule risks; implement mitigation strategies proactively.
- Track progress against schedule and provide accurate, forward-looking forecasts to management and stakeholders.
Project Execution & Technical Coordination:
- Serve as the primary coordination point between engineering, business development, fabrication shops, procurement, quality, and suppliers.
- Coordinate engineering deliverables (calculations, drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, design reviews) with machining, welding, assembly, and inspection activities.
- Apply working knowledge of shell-and-tube heat exchangers, condensers, pressure vessels, and thermal systems to anticipate execution risks and sequencing challenges.
- Ensure engineering designs are released in alignment with fabrication readiness and procurement lead times.
Fabrication, Machining & Quality Interface:
- Coordinate machining and fabrication activities including welding, forming, tube-to-tubesheet joints, NDE, hydrotesting, and final assembly.
- Interface with Quality and Inspection teams to ensure compliance with applicable ASTM specifications, ASME requirements, and internal QA procedures.
- Support resolution of fabrication and shop-floor issues in coordination with engineering and quality teams.
- Monitor supplier and subcontractor performance related to fabrication, materials, and delivery schedules.
Cost, Risk, and Change Management:
- Support budget tracking, earned value reporting, and cost forecasting.
- Identify and manage scope changes, technical risks, and fabrication impacts through formal change control processes.
- Proactively manage risks associated with materials, machining capacity, weld procedures, inspections, and code compliance.
Client & External Interface:
- Coordinate client communications related to schedules, deliverables, inspections, and project status.
- Support responses to client technical, fabrication, and schedule inquiries in coordination with engineering leadership.
- Manage interactions with third-party reviewers, inspectors, and certifying bodies as required.
Process & Continuous Improvement:
- Drive improvements in project scheduling, fabrication coordination, document control, and cross-functional workflows.
- Promote consistent use of project management best practices and execution metrics.
- Reinforce a culture of safety, quality, and on-time delivery consistent with Holtec International’s values.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of project management experience supporting engineered products in heat exchangers, pressure vessels, power generation, or industrial thermal systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in project scheduling and planning using tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of shell-and-tube heat exchangers, condensers, and high-temperature or high-pressure thermal equipment.
- Familiarity with applicable ASTM material specifications and standards relevant to heat exchanger and pressure vessel fabrication.
- Practical understanding of machining and fabrication processes, including welding, forming, NDE, hydrotesting, and assembly.
- Strong understanding of engineering-to-fabrication workflows and supplier interfaces.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Proven ability to identify schedule, fabrication, and supply chain risks and drive timely resolution.
- PMP certification or equivalent preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship.
Training Requirements:
All candidates must complete the following training:
- QA Indoctrination
- Project Management On-the-job Training
Salary range: $125,000 to $145,000
