Mechanical Engineer III

The Mechanical Design Engineer III is responsible for assisting in the successful implementation of projects and provides technical support to the design and fabrication departments. For the currently available positions, Holtec is seeking engineers with experience and expertise in mechanical design to support growth of our Dry Fuel Storage and Transportation group. The engineer in this position must have an aptitude for practical engineering and fabrication, a willingness to immerse one’s self in the position and rapidly learn the business, ability to work with little supervision, have strong leadership skills, and be willing to travel periodically. In addition to Camden, the candidate will collaborate with associates from other operation centers on different projects. Similar positions may also be open at other operation centers.
Location: Camden, NJ Waterfront Campus (On‑site)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Review client and Holtec specifications to determine design requirements.
- Coordinate and perform integrated product development and integrated engineering processes to fulfill project requirements and achieve target dates.
- Review of product design for compliance with engineering principles, contract requirements, and applicable standards
- Author and review design changes, specifications, analyses and drawings
- Oversee preparation of and perform review of design concept drawings for equipment using input from various technical disciplines
- Oversee preparation of and perform review of detailed fabrication drawings to be used by manufacturers to fabricate Holtec equipment
- Prepare Purchase/Technical Specifications and Operations and Maintenance Manuals for company product line
- Provide technical resolutions for manufacturing deviations requested by the fabricators
- Assist design team members with their responsibilities for an accurate and timely execution of projects
- Compliance with strict quality assurance standards and on time delivery
- Travel (less than 20% of time)
Requirements:
- BS in Mechanical or Nuclear engineering.
- 10+ years of related engineering experience
- Strong problem-solving abilities with experience evaluating others' work, resolving complex issues, and delivering constructive technical feedback.
- Serves as a primary engineering representative in client-facing discussions and effectively communicates technical concepts to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrates leadership by acting as the lead engineer on projects, coordinating team workloads, and ensuring commitments and schedules are met.
- Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers, including training staff and supporting team development initiatives.
- Develops and maintains comprehensive training materials, incorporating lessons learned and updated technical guidance for the broader team.
- Trusted to work independently while contributing strategically to department goals, team development, and overall project success.
- Excellent attention to detail and capable of producing error-free documents
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent math, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of engineering design practices and principles (e.g. interference checks, tolerance stack-ups, fits, GD&T)
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work in a timely fashion with minimal supervision
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience using CAD software to create both 3D solid models and 2D detailed drawings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (MS, PhD, or equivalent) in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
- Excellent technical writing, interpersonal and effective communication skills.
- Proven track record of taking ownership and working in a collaborative environment.
- Experience with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, AISC standards, AWS standards and/or the ACI Code
- Experience in the nuclear industry is desirable.
- Experience working with engineers and manufacturers to develop designs and drawings.
- Experience with Smart Plant, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and ANSYS software.

- Annual compensation based on skills and experience ranging from $120,000 to $140,000
