The Technical Sponsor/Mechanical Design Engineer - Heat Exchangers is responsible for the design, development, and technical oversight of heat exchanger equipment used in the power generation industry. This role serves as the technical lead for assigned projects, translating customer and internal requirements into engineered solutions that meet performance, quality, regulatory, and schedule objectives. The position coordinates design activities, maintains configuration control, reviews design concepts and fabrication drawings, and works closely with engineers, designers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure accurate and timely project execution. The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical design expertise, extensive experience with ASME Section VIII and/or Section III heat exchanger design, proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drafting, and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering documentation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design heat exchanger equipment for use in the power industry
  • Review client and Holtec specifications to determine design requirements
  • Coordinate and perform design work to fulfill project requirements, maintain configuration control and achieve target dates
  • Oversee preparation of and perform review of design concept drawings for equipment using input from various technical disciplines
  • Oversee preparation of and perform review of detailed fabrication drawings to be used by manufacturers to fabricate Holtec equipment
  • Assist design team members with their responsibilities for accurate and timely execution of projects

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience utilizing CAD software to develop 3D solid models, assemblies, and detailed 2D fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience designing ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII and/or Section III heat exchangers, including familiarity with applicable design, fabrication, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, high-quality engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, project management, and customer teams.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities with a proven capacity to evaluate technical challenges and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design principles and engineering practices, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack-up analyses, fit and clearance evaluations, and interference assessments.
  • Experience developing engineered products and technical documentation in collaboration with engineers, designers, fabricators, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet project milestones, and deliver quality work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting the complete engineering design lifecycle, from concept development and design reviews through fabrication, testing, and implementation, preferred.

  • Annual compensation based on skills and experience ranging from $105,000 to $125,000
