Holtec International, a global turnkey supplier of equipment and systems for the nuclear, solar, geothermal and fossil power generation sectors of the energy industry, is seeking to add an Electrical Engineer to their SMR-300 engineering team.

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design and analysis of safety and non-safety related electrical systems for the SMR-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR). The position will regularly interface with the I&C, systems engineering, mechanical engineering, and nuclear engineering teams for electrical design and consultation. The Electrical Engineer applies his or her knowledge and experience, industry best practices, regulatory guidance, codes and standards, and good engineering judgment to ensure the design is compliant with International regulatory criteria and industry best practices.

Specific Area of Responsibility:

I&C System design including:

  • Requirements development
  • Design specification development
  • System analysis
  • Licensing conformance evaluations
  • Read, interpret and develop logic diagrams
  • Perform I&C calculations: setpoint, loop calibration, and instrument calibration tolerances
  • Perform instrument vendor selection and vetting
  • Process Controls design including:
  • Develop Control System Descriptions for plant systems
  • Review and provide I&C insight into P&ID development
  • Read, interpret and develop logic diagrams, Instrument, and I/O Lists
  • Support Human Factors analysis of plant systems.
  • Perform sizing and specifying I&C (transmitters, operators, control valves, switches, etc.) equipment
  • Perform I&C calculations: setpoint, loop calibration, and instrument calibration tolerances
  • Perform instrument vendor selection and vetting
  • Develop system function and design requirement specifications
  • Develop one-line/three-line diagrams
  • Develop/Optimize Cable and Cable Tray Routing
  • Develop licensing requirements for electrical systems
  • Develop component specifications for individual system components such as batteries, transformers, breakers, switchgear, relaying, etc.
  • Interact with vendors to obtain vendor input/design confirmation of various components
  • Perform and support vendor selection and vetting process
  • Work with other work groups to provide electrical design support
  • Oversee any electrical work performed by other organizations

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, I&C, or related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • 7–10 years of progressive I&C engineering experience.
  • Advanced expertise in I&C system design, project execution, and regulatory compliance.
  • Produces and reviews technical deliverables to ensure high quality and compliance.
  • Strong communicator, able to present technical information clearly to management, clients, and regulators.
  • Exercises sound judgment in complex technical and project decisions.
  • Demonstrates advanced planning, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Adaptable in dynamic project and organizational environments.
  • Leads and mentors teams of engineers, fostering collaboration and growth.
  • Consistently meets deadlines and manages competing priorities.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or advanced technical training preferred.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in I&C design for power generation, with substantial nuclear exposure.
  • Lead experience in system-level design, integration, or modification of complex I&C systems.
  • Advanced experience in Human Factors analysis and implementation in nuclear environments.
  • Strong background in Cyber Security compliance for nuclear systems (10 CFR 73.54, RG 5.71).
  • Proven experience leading system commissioning, integrated plant control tuning, and acceptance testing.
  • Deep knowledge of US and international licensing standards and nuclear regulatory guidance.
  • Recognized proficiency with nuclear-specific codes, standards, and best practices.

Salary range: $120,000.00-$145,000.00
