The Structural Engineer I would be called upon to analyze metallic, reinforced concrete, modular steel-concrete composite, and soil-subgrade supported structures. In addition to Bristol office, structural engineers are also located in Pune (India), Madrid (Spain) and in the US with whom the candidate will collaborate on different projects. If assigned to work in the SMR-300 program, the analyst will support engineering and licensing requirements, leading to the licensing and construction of the first SMR-300 plant. Similar positions are also open at the Company’s Pune and Cranberry operation centers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analysis and design of structures, systems, and components (SSCs) for nuclear and energy facilities.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) using industry-standard tools such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, SAP2000, and ETABS.
  • Evaluate stress, strength, stability, and fatigue performance of structures under various loading conditions (thermal, seismic, dynamic, etc.).
  • Analyze a wide range of materials and systems including:
  • Metallic structures
  • Reinforced concrete systems
  • Modular steel-concrete composite structures
  • Soil-structure interaction and subgrade-supported systems
  • Support design qualification and code compliance in accordance with nuclear and international engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary and global teams across offices (U.S., India, Spain, UK) on complex engineering projects.
  • Contribute to engineering, licensing, and regulatory documentation, especially for nuclear programs such as SMR-300.
  • Assist in the development, validation, and optimization of structural models and simulation methodologies.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting support for ongoing projects and design challenges.
  • Participate in design reviews, safety evaluations, and risk assessments for critical infrastructure.
  • Support the construction and implementation phase by ensuring structural integrity and compliance with approved designs.

 

Requirements:

  • Masters in Civil or Structural or Mechanical Engineering
  • In-depth knowledge of strength of materials and structural mechanics
  • Experience using commercial software such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, Abaqus, ETABS, SAP2000, Plaxis 3D, and STAAD.Pro
  • Familiarity with industry standards and design codes such as ASME, ACI, ASCE and AISC
  • Excellent technical writing, interpersonal and effective communication skills
  • Doctorate degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
  • Experience in conducting seismic and impact-based dynamic analyses
  • Knowledge of geotechnical and geophysical engineering
  • Experience in modular design development of SSCs
  • Experience working with designers and manufacturers to develop models and drawings; knowledge of software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Tekla and Revit
  • Prior nuclear industry experience including interactions with NRC or other regulatory authorities (preferred)
