Holtec Britain is seeking a Civil & Structural Team Lead to lead civil and structural engineering design and delivery across UK and international nuclear and infrastructure projects. Serving as the discipline’s technical authority, this role is accountable for design integrity, nuclear safety, regulatory compliance, and engineering governance. The role leads integration of safety case and licensing requirements into design and delivery, and coordinates with multidisciplinary, geographically distributed teams to ensure effective and integrated project execution. The position also drives the development and implementation of modular steel-concrete structural solutions to enhance constructability, reduce schedule risk, and improve cost efficiency across programmes. The successful candidate will lead team development and engineering execution across Holtec Britain’s civil and structural portfolio in support of Holtec’s global programs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead civil and structural engineering delivery in support of UK and international projects, serving as technical authority and ensuring schedule, quality, and performance objectives are met.
  • Perform and oversee structural and seismic analyses in accordance with design basis requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Establish, maintain, and govern design basis documentation, specifications, calculations, and engineering deliverables to ensure design integrity and compliance.
  • Review and approve drawings, calculations, and technical outputs, resolving complex or emergent engineering issues affecting systems, structures, and components.
  • Support plant and system modifications through development of engineering solutions and design changes.
  • Lead and integrate nuclear safety, safety case, and licensing requirements into civil and structural design, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and providing substantiated engineering input to safety and licensing documentation. Coordinate with multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams to enable integrated engineering delivery across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Provide technical input to proposals, bids, and client engagements, including scope definition, estimates, and solution development.
  • Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, and engineering teams as required.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and manage team capability and performance within the discipline.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline). Demonstrated experience leading civil/structural engineering delivery across complex projects, typically gained over a number of years in progressively responsible roles. Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) preferred.
  • Extensive experience in civil and structural engineering design and analysis, including strong knowledge of strength of materials, structural mechanics, and applicable design codes and standards (e.g., Eurocodes, ACI, AISC, ASME).
  • Proficiency in structural, seismic, and dynamic analysis methods, including finite element analysis of concrete and/or steel structures, using commercial tools such as ANSYS, LS‑DYNA, Abaqus, ETABS, SAP2000, Plaxis 3D, STAAD.Pro, and related platforms.
  • Experience with design and modeling tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Tekla, Revit, or similar, and familiarity with geotechnical and geophysical engineering principles preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, including leading engineering teams or serving as a subject matter expert within nuclear or other highly regulated industries.
  • Strong experience preparing, reviewing, and approving engineering calculations, reports, and drawings, with excellent technical writing, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
