Human Resource Intern

The Human Resources Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting core HR functions within a fast-paced union manufacturing environment. This role offers exposure to recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, labor relations, compliance, and benefits administration while assisting the HR team with day-to-day operations and special projects.
This position is designed to provide practical experience and professional development opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing a career in Human Resources.
Location: East Pittsburgh, PA (On site)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Scan and organize employee personnel files into electronic record systems.
- Assist with maintaining confidentiality of employee records and HR documentation.
- Support HR document retention and compliance procedures.
- Participate in Welder and Laborer Open House events, including:
- Supporting candidate assessments
- Assist with screening candidates for craft / manufacturing positions.
- Support onboarding and pre-employment activities by:
- Launching and tracking drug screens and background checks
- Preparing new hire packets and onboarding materials
- Scheduling orientation sessions through Outlook
- Assist with administering internal skill assessments for positions
- Observe Union Step 1 grievance hearings to gain exposure to labor relations processes.
- Assist the Benefits administrator with monthly benefits invoice reviews and reconciliation activities.
- Gain exposure to employee benefits administration and wellness initiatives.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Interest in Human Resources within a manufacturing or union environment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Professional demeanor and willingness to learn.
