The Human Resources Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting core HR functions within a fast-paced union manufacturing environment. This role offers exposure to recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, labor relations, compliance, and benefits administration while assisting the HR team with day-to-day operations and special projects.

This position is designed to provide practical experience and professional development opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing a career in Human Resources.

Location: East Pittsburgh, PA (On site)

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Scan and organize employee personnel files into electronic record systems.
  • Assist with maintaining confidentiality of employee records and HR documentation.
  • Support HR document retention and compliance procedures.
  • Participate in Welder and Laborer Open House events, including:
  • Supporting candidate assessments
  • Assist with screening candidates for craft / manufacturing  positions.
  • Support onboarding and pre-employment activities by:
  • Launching and tracking drug screens and background checks
  • Preparing new hire packets and onboarding materials
  • Scheduling orientation sessions through Outlook
  • Assist with administering internal skill assessments for positions
  • Observe Union Step 1 grievance hearings to gain exposure to labor relations processes.
  • Assist the Benefits administrator with monthly benefits invoice reviews and reconciliation activities.
  • Gain exposure to employee benefits administration and wellness initiatives.

 

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in Human Resources within a manufacturing or union environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Professional demeanor and willingness to learn.
